Does Anyone Have Information on Children’s Fortune-Telling Games?

Fortune Telling
Sarah asked:

Things like “Little Sally Ann” or the jump rope game (“Strawberry shortcake, lemon tart, tell me the name of my sweet-heart. A B C D…” and whatever letter you miss the rope on, is the first letter of his name). I’m writing a short story and it has a lot to do with children’s games and their connection with old folk magic. It doesn’t even have to be the fortune-telling type, but so far that’s all I can remember. Either memories of rhymes from when you were younger, or a good website I can find, would be great.

Thanks!
Also, the apple-stem, soda-tab ones, (and ouija boards, and paper fortune tellers), are ones I already know. I’m really looking more for the rhymes/chants/etc. Thanks, though!

  • Laine:

twist the stem off a apple as you turn say the alphabit and what letter it breaks off at is the first letter of the name of the person you will marry
    It actually has gypsy origins
