Slaves to Super-Stition (4/5) – Richard Dawkins

Fourth part (of five) of the 2007 documentary Slaves to Superstition. Biologist and professor Richard Dawkins tackles the epidemic of irrational, superstitious thinking which is blotting the light of logic and evidence. After garnering tips on psychics’ entirely earthly trade secrets from the illusionist Derren Brown, Dawkins attends a seance and confronts the medium. Time and again, the interviewees appeal to personal revelation or second-hand anecdote to justify their belief.

People of R&S! Which Superstition Annoys You the Most?

Question by Orac: People of R&S! Which superstition annoys you the most?
Rather than asking which religions annoy you which gets asked all the time, I thought I’d see if you have any pet hates amongst the superstitions and spiritual practices that go on? Be it psychics, alternative therapies, ouija boards, third eyes etc. etc. etc.

Mine is astrology.
It’s just so obviously utter rubbish! I just can’t understand why so many people need to see their horoscopes and why so many celebrities have their own private chart readers!? Not only is this baseless practice an insult to modern science, what enrages me most of all is the number of ordinary people who don’t know the difference between an “astronomer” and an “astrologer!”
