Why Are Ancient Religions No One Believes in Anymore Considered “mythology”,When They’re Like Modern Religions?
Question by jason: Why are ancient religions no one believes in anymore considered “mythology”,when they’re like modern religions?
why are ancient religions considered “mythology”, when they’re just as believable (or unbelievable) as current modern-day religions. just because no one believes in them any more, people think that they are not real, but for all we know, Zeus is real, and is really angry because we don’t believe in him anymore.
how do you know that Jesus is real, and not the “mythological” religions and their gods?

Current day religions are tomorrow’s mythology.
uhhh…. excuse me….. your ignorance is showing….
Mythology and Religion have almost identical connotations
First Definition of Myth: A person or thing existing only in imagination, or whose actual existence is not verifiable.
sounds like “god” to me
Second Definition of Myth: A belief or story that illustrates a cultural ideal; stories that help explain how to live
sounds like the “bible” to me
no they are not real and made up
the current following of jesus is real and not made up.
No one around to say “no my religion is not mythology” then it’s called a mythology.
Otherwise it ‘s called a religion.
Very interesting question.
The belief in Roman/Greek Gods is still around. Although, it has a very small amount of followers. Some religions have a bigger following. People that call any religion stupid are plain silly, especially if you are a Christian. Why you ask? Because it says in the Bible that you should not be the judge of anyone, or anything. That includes other religions. God is the judge, not us.
It’s still around, there just aren’t a whole lot of people that follow the religion.
because religious people are quick to call another story based on assumptions and miracles as stupid
yet they NEVER see how others can call their system of belief as pure nonsense!
Why would you worship anything man made and most ancient religions worshiped idles and not the living God.
You get a star from me! I feel that in about 50 yrs. people will be laughing and saying, “can you believe people used to believe in gods!?”
It it has few followers it’s mythology. IF it has a lot, It’s a religion.
Mythology is a term that actually means both old religions and current ones. And there are plenty of neo-pagans today who worship Zeus. But you have hit upon the basic issue with faith. People believe in one thing or another. The problem is when some people try to impose their beliefs on the others. Zeus may indeed be angry, but not with you nor with me.
Well, that’s probably why we now have Hellenic Reconstructionism (Greek), Asatru (Norse), Kemetism (Egyptian), and all the rest. Heh, just because some faiths are more quiet then others, it doesn’t mean they cease to exist. :P
Modern religions also have mythologies.
For instance, in Christian, Jewish and Muslim belief, man and woman were created by God breathing life into a man fashioned from mud. That’s clearly a myth.
Or Moses parting the Red Sea. Or Noah preserving all humans and animal species aboard a boat when the whole world was flooded with water. Or languages arising from God confusing people’s speech when the Mesopotamians built a tower in Babylon.
Or Jesus rising from the grave.
These are all myths. Religion is constructed partly from myth, and partly from a set of practices. While the practices are still going, it’s religion. When the practices stop being practiced, all you have left is the myth.
Denial. Denial seems to be at the heart of all religions. Everyone has some little rational voice in the back of their head. Religious people just seem to avoid it or suppress it.
I also think many modern religious individuals do not actually research their respective religions, their origins and their connections (coincidence?) with other religions that are either extinct or practiced by the minority.
I think polytheism is given to a lot of ridicule as well. Monotheism is held in incredibly high esteem. I think this is because it is more personal in nature or more relatable due to the fact that they contain human prophets. The idea of a Jesus figure sacrificing himself for the sins of the believers is a very intimate story and seems to be the predominant element of Christianity that is so emotionally fulfilling for believers. It makes a lot of sense until you break it down and realize how absurd it is.
EDIT: Don’t bother asking Christians how they know Jesus is real. They can’t give you a rational answer. It’s more of a feeling for them which is completely subjective and beyond empirical. The realization that Jesus is possibly just a mythological pagan-like figure just insults the crap out of them.
My Daddy who I love with my whole heart is a minister and who I also feel is the wisest man I’ve ever met but I do not agree with his views I DO believe it is a higher power that has the force to do some amazing things however The Great Being or God is not who conventional and common or known religions think They are i.e. Jesus Allah etc it has been proven that most modern religions are taken from different religions from around the world from all points in history but they all follow the same outline which is the astrology and the constalations and how the sun orbits the Earth so in essance all religons are fabricated and religion is used to scare and brainwash the masses and to keep its “faithful” enslaved. If you would like to know that Jesus is real you can easily google Eucharist Miracles and see the physical evidence for your self that is still around in our modern day. If you do not know Christ this may help you get to know him, do some research and see what the Holy Spirit will tell you. As for the ancient gods of mythology science had help to discredit their being however science still cannot explain what you will see when you google Eucharistic Miracles. May God truly bless you on your journey to him he has placed your question in you heart.
